Oil painting on canvas. French school of the 18th century. The mythological subject of the goddess Diana bathing was widely spread in 18th century painting and, particularly in the Flemish area, also in the previous century. It was proposed in different variations, with the goddess alone, or accompanied by nymphs, or with Actaeon; in this case the beautiful deity, recognizable by the quiver hanging from the tree branch and the hunting dog that accompanies her. she is about to bathe in a body of water while a mischievous faun spies on her behind her. The scantily clad female body occupies the entire scene, central and of a whiteness that stands out in the midst of the shadows of the leafy forest, with all the other figures and elements that surround it. The small painting was restored and relined at the beginning of the 20th century.

The work was published in the catalog of the exhibition "Il cielo di Walter Valentini", 52nd International Art Exhibition, published by GB Salvi in 2002. Walter Valentini was an Italian painter, sculptor and engraver, recognized internationally in the field of graphics and engraving. The founding elements of his poetics are immediately evident: the artistic culture of the Renaissance, made of harmony and balance; the sense of space and proportions inherent in architecture; the abstract research of Russian constructivists and great masters of abstraction and spatialism; the need to give representation to the end of time, to the cosmos, to memory; the suggestion and great sensitivity for the same materials used (from papers to wooden surfaces, to walls). He gave life to large cycles of works such as the "Rooms of Time", the "Wall of Time", which find new development in the series dedicated to the "City of the Sun" and the "Ideal City", and therefore in the large tables of the cycle “The measurements, the sky”. This work belongs to the cycles, both pictorial and sculptural and of engravings, dedicated to the sky, in which the artist reinterprets the elliptical orbits of the planets and the constellations. The work is presented in a plexiglass case.
