Along The Sesia 1970

Oil on canvas. Signed at the bottom right. On the back there is the title with date. Giuseppe Ajmone was an artist from Valsesia that studied at the Brera Academy in Milan; he was one of the signatories of the Manifesto of Realism in1946. Ajmone preferred to paint still lifes and landscaped but he was also very fasinated by the nudes that had characterize most of his pictorical production from the 1960s untill now. The landscape in question shows a suggestive glimpse of Sesia. The painting comes with frame.

Tempera on paper on etching. French school from about 1750-1770. Refined colouring of a coeval French print. The oriental subject is a young Chinese man who hints at some dance steps on an outdoor trail, under a plant of exotic fruit. The quality of the piece reminds of the French Rococo production, like those of François Boucher (1703-1770) or Jean Pillement (1728-1808), who both contributed to the spreading of the liking for Chinese representations in Europe. Pillement was the author of numerous drawings and etchings of Chinese taste, collected in two volumes (1767-71) and widely spread in Europe as models. The drawing needs cleaning and restoration. It is mounted on cardboard and comes with a frame.

OIl on plywood. Signature and date at the top right. The composition shows some apples spread on the table with other elements: a plate, a jug and the glass, the chalice, some jars. The Tuscan artist Luigi Bini was a painter, ceramist and sculptor, who did not feel bound by traditional techniques but liked to experiment with new ones. His paintings, which include portraits and figure studies, were mainly done in pastel and tempera in order to achieve lively and soft chromatic transitions through broad brush strokes. The painting comes in a contemporary frame.

The Portrait of the Queen

Oil painting on canvas. At the bottom right there is an unidentified signature. The large canvas presents an interior scene, set in an eighteenth-century court: in the richly furnished room with velvet curtains, sculptures and large paintings on the walls, a queen (identified by her ermine-edged cloak) poses for the painter who is her portrait, surrounded by the court, smiling ladies and gentlemen, and a prelate, who instead seems rather dissatisfied. The work looks at the production of the painter Arturo Ricci (1854 -1919), who specialized in genre scenes set in eighteenth-century courts. The painting is presented in a frame assembled with elements from the early 1900s.
