Description : Maddalena penitente
Oil on canvas. Mary Magdalene is depicted surrounded by a magnificent flower wreath. The tradition of depicting holy subjects with flower crowns, finely described and used as frames, is typical of Jan Brueghel the Young (1601-1678). He was a specialist of flowers and landscapes and he collaborated with other painters who painted the central scene. Among these, Erasmus Quellinus, the Saint Luca guild master of Anversa. Restored and relined, presented in a revival frame. 17th century.
