Description : Ritratto del Cardinale Carlo De Medici
Oil on canvas. Justus Sustermans was born in Antwerp, he became a court painter of the Medici in Florence, and is remembered in particular for his qualities as a portrait painter. In addition to the official portraits to full figure, there were numerous ones in the middle of the bust, many are intended to be sent to other courts to seal friendships and alliances. The portrait of her most well-known of Cardinal Ferdinando de ' Medici is perhaps the one preserved at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum; in this version, despite not having the same refined execution stands out for the capacity analysis of the character, judged from the intensity of the yield of the gaze, which makes it sustainable to the attribution proposal. Presented in a gilded frame of the period.
