Description : Natura morta di fiori con scimmia
Oil on canvas. Good quality both the flower and the animal. The monkey, often depicted as a symbolic representation of human's animal impulses, in this case seems not to have this kind of symbolic meaning. It rather represents a social indicator, like it often occurred in descriptive works of rich and sumptuous locations: in wealthy people's houses, monkeys were considered likable mates. The collection of animals, strange objects and items worthy of wonder that wealthy families owned represented their status symbol. Restored and relined, it is presented in a frame of the 18th century, carved wood.
