Description : Giove fulmina i Titani.
Oil on canvas with etching technique. The etching technique spread between 1600s and 1700s in Veneto Region. It was made ad-hoc for objects and furniture decoration, more rarely used in paintings. Among the most famous printers, there were 'Remondini di Bassano', active since 1620, for which well-known artists such as Canaletto, Ricci, Tiepolo worked. The technique consisted in applying very thin engravings on cabinets, objects or canvas, as in this case. The engravings were then painted and, especially with furniture, covered with a transparent lacquer. The advantage was a greater executive speed and a lower cost. This kind of paintings are rare to find on the market. Our painting has large dimensions and is presented in a coeval lacquered frame with an impressive decorative effect. Small damage at the bottom left. 18th century.
