View of Venice, drawing by Gabriele Mandel, 1952. Mixed media on paper. Signed and dated bottom left, on the bridge arch. Work by the multi-faceted Bolognese intellectual, who was a psychologist, writer, artist and archaeologist, Italian but of Turkish-Afghan descent. Gabriele d'Annunzio was his godfather and close friend of his father. Not yet twenty, at the end of the Second World War, he was imprisoned and tortured by the Nazis in Milan for not wanting to collaborate with them. With several degrees (classical languages and literatures, psychology and medicine), he was the author of numerous texts of art, psychology, and poetry, several of which were translated into various languages. As a painter, engraver and ceramist, his works were exhibited in several museums and institutions and in many personal exhibitions all over the world. Many great public figures from the art world have spoken about him, and he got many civil and cultural awards during his lifetime. The work is presented in a frame.
