Description : Suonatore di liuto
Oil painting on canvas. The figure is presented in three-quarter length and half-length, on the head, turned right, a hat is worn, a red cloak draped over his shoulders that leaves a sleeve and part of the bodice uncovered, hands clasping a lute. The painting, characterized by the heavy light contrast of the face, which emerges strongly from the darkness, can be referred to the scope of the Caravaggesque followers in Rome, in particular to the French group, among whom the figure of Nicolas Tournier (1590- 1639 ca.): of this artist is a work very close to that presented by us, the "Flute player", (preserved at the Civic Art Museums and History of Brescia), which presents obvious similarities in posture, clothing and colors. The work, already restored, is presented in an ancient frame, with crest surmounted by a young man's head with a hat.
