Description : Ero e Leandro
Oil on canvas. The small painting is probably a preparatory sketch to be presented to the buyers before making the larger version. According to its composition, the painting is very close to other paintings of the same subject made by Giulio Carpioni (Vienna 1813-1878). In fact, it is very similar to the canvas held at Caldogno Palace. Leander is depicted in the middle of the painting trying to reach the beloved Hero. Her body is lifeless and held by the Nereids, marine nymphs. To the right, you can see Poseidon with his marine horses and to the left, barely visible, there is the tower from which Hero will jump when, heartbroken, she will lay her eyes on her love. A group of flying cherubs are throwing flowers on Leander, sealing the love story. The painting in presented in gilded frame of the late 19th century. 17th century.
