Description : Vecchio contadino con lepre
Oil on canvas. Giacomo Francesco Todeschini was an Austrian painter who worked in Italy from the late 1600s. In the first period of his career he used to paint mostly still life paintings and once arrived in Italy, he approached genre scenes and portraits, depicting especially humble workers, farmers and peasants during their daily activities and in their misery. Unlike many genre painters of the 17th century, he avoided melancholic attitudes in favor of an easy sense of humor. The painting depicts a portrait of an old farmer - grotesque with his toothless smile and the big crop - carrying a hare on his back and feeding it with some leaves. The character is depicted on a dark background. The setting is not defined. The authenticity of the painting is confirmed by Dr. Proni. 17th century.
