Tempera on canvas. Decorative element from a Lombard mansion house. It depicts a vase decorated with a Neoclassical scene depicting figures and friezes. The style underlines the plasticity of the element like it was a real marble vase on its base within a niche in the wall and it's real shadow behind. The Neoclassical taste favored the sculptural plasticity over the pictorial expressiveness and shape over color. The canvas is presented in frame. Last quarter of the 18th century.
