Oil painting on canvas. According to the mythology, Omphale was the queen of Lydia who - at the behest of an oracle - had Heracles as her slave. She ordered him to catch and punish the thieves on the Earth and he killed some of them for her. The scene depicts the couple right after the hero defeated the thief Sileo, whose body lies dead at their feet. The queen is holding Heracles' club. Behind her, Cupid is enlightening the couple after leaving his quiver and arrows. The painting is similar to Jacopo Annigoni's technique. Restored and relined, it shows some losses of color. Presented in gilded revival frame. 18th century.
