Oil on canvas. In the oval shapoed scene some chubby kids are playing with some goats. The painting is attributable to Pietro Bardellino, neapoletain painter in whose production there are severa comparable allegorical scenes that reclaim the french style- in particular Fancois Boucher's inventions from the 18th century- of using the childhood theme to embody renaissence and baroque allegories. Bardellino was very active in the decoration of the inners of the noble neapolitain recidences; actually a lot of work with this aim of above door had been attribute to him. The allegorica meaning of them is doubtful and maybe intentionally differently interpretable depending on the commitence and of the employment of the villa. The same scene is often found in Bardellino's production, in different sizes, sometime described by the allegory of senses so in this case Touch would be represented or as ina allegory of elements so it would be Earth. we appriciate the magnificence of the representation, light and bright, where stand out the research of light chromatic shades thet create pastel effect, reduction of chiaroscuro contrasts, precise soft outlines of figures, typical of Bardellino's works. The painting , already restored, is presented in a coeval neapolitan frame (last quarter of 18th century) decorated with rocaille. Made with carved wood, the frame shows a flowery garland motif that ends with a shell cymatium. The frame is lacquered with the gilded carvings.
