Description : Il mercato degli schiavi a Parigi
Woodcut on paper. In the bottom right, in engraving, the inscription "Callot f. à Paris, 1629, Israel excudit". Jacques Callot was a great French engraver, of Nancy, whose most famous works are Les Misères et Malheurs de la Guerre, series of 18 plates in etching which depict the episodes of the thirty years ' War, in the most brutal way. Between 1628 and 1631 Callot stayed several times in Paris, where in 1629 gave to Israël Henriet, friend of childhood, the edition of his plates. The work presented belongs to this period. It seems, however, that Callot had planned this work in 1619/1620 with background an Italian port, that on the death of the artist was replaced by Henriet, with a view of the city of Paris (which uses the title "Small view of Paris") . The work was presented in the frame.
