Oil on canvas.Signed in the lower right. Gian Battista Bassi was born in Massa Lombarda, Is formed artistically first to Bologna and later to Rome, where he started his artistic success. Also stayed in Naples, where he drew inspiration for several of his views. He distinguished himself primarily as a painter of landscapes, made with strong adherence to reality, earning the nickname "master of realism", but also with a strong imprint of the romantic., in the wake of Salvator Rosa. As A result of its success, it also raised several times some of his subjects, as is the case with the work proposed here. The painting is in fact the replica in the small size of the work dated 1819 (dimensions of 98 x 78 cm), and passed in auction in 2009. The work belongs to the triptych "The poem of the day": these are three tables that represent the Country in the hours of the morning (the temple of Diana and the lake of Albano, which was purchased by the count Esterházy), The campaign in the hours of midday (the grotto of Posillipo, which were painted in various examples, the original Henry day, Prussia, and a replica for the prince Hercolani of Bologna; the Perticari also, when in 1819, describes the three tables, mentions a sixth exemplary executed for count Archinto of Milan, italy), The countryside in the evening hours (Orti farnesiani on the Palatine).
