Description : I giocatori di carte
Oil on metal plate. The genre scene takes place inside a farmhouse where some men are playing sitting at the dining table with flasks of wine; on the right a rifle leaning against the wall and a dog waiting identify an hunter. The characters are well portrayed, almost caricatural; the scene is diagonally divided by a wall beam; plays of light stand out in the dark background with white spots that underline some details. On the back there is a tag with title " The players at cards" and assignment to Cherles Vennemann, belgian painter from 19th century specialized in genre scenes. The painting is displayed in a coeval frame that had been gilded again and needs to be restored for several missing parts; on the back there are belonging stamps to the collection of the Count Camillo Salvadego Molin Ugoni frome the noble brescian family.
