Oil on canvas. French school. Beautiful copy of the famous painting preserved in the Louvre Museum in Paris, painted in 1747 by François Boucher who, as the first painter at the court of Louis XV, realized a series of pieces depicting mythological subjects, through which he represented the Parisian society that revolved around the King, with elegant and sensual figures, bright scenes, light colours, entangled shapes. The myth depicted here is the story of Europa, the beautiful Phoenician princess with whom Jupiter fell in love. To kidnap her, the god transformed into a white bull and approached Europa and her maids while they used to bathe and pick flowers on the sea shore. Since the animal looked tame, Europa moved closer and climbed on his back and the god took advantage of this to kidnap her and bring her to Crete, where he married her. There is a sealing wax stamp of import on the back of this copy. The painting presents a cut on the top in the middle. It is displayed in a gilded frame from the first half of '900.
