Description
The mercury mirror is made of multiple sheets, that present some cracks in some places. The frame is carved with oval decorations. The frame around it is made of mirrors, framed and decorated with leaves volutes and architectural curls of clear baroque taste. The decor of the cymanthium, supported by feet with caprine features, is particularly rich, with the typical trilobed shape, in which the carving creates simmetries with the floral drapings and wainscot frames. The two grotesque masks that decorate the lateral lobes are partucilarly interesting decorative elements. Gilded with gold leaf in its entirety. The possible comparisons with some Florentine pieces, like the one preserved in Palazzo Pitti, makes it possible to narrow down its origin to that area.
