Description : Ritratto di Giuseppe II d'Austria
OIl on canvas. Portrait of Joseph 2nd of Asburgo-Lorena ( Vienna 1741-1790) imperor of di Holy Roman Empire since 1741 with his mother Maria Theresa of Austria and as an only reiging since 1780. He was considerated one of the exponent of the enlightened despotism whit his internal and external reform program aimed to the development and strenghtening of his kingdom. There are several portraits of him like the one in question that dates back to his youth; he is in a conventional pose with the imperial emblems ( the gilded Toscon, the Cross of Maria Theresa of Austria) and the red and white bandolier. Original canvas with a small rip. It is displayed in a coeval oval gilded frame engraved with leaves and ribbons.
