Oil on canvas. North Italy School. The representation of the earthly family of Jesus reunited is a recurreing subject in the arts: in the middle, Mary holds her Child, while she holds a book with the other hand; on her knees, in the centre of the scene, Baby Jesus, stretched out to play towards his cousin John, who was the same age, but already appointed with his mission, as indicated by the staff surmounted bt the Cross that he is holding; the putative father Joseph stands in the shadows on the left, behind the group, and lovingly and protectively looks at the bride. Restored and recanvased, the painting is presented in a gilded style frame.
