Oil on canvas. Signed bottom right. The title is on the back, with additional signature and location, Withby, Yorkshire. Son of an artist, the English painter John Templeton Lucas is mostly known for his portraits of popular figures of his native land, pictured in their natural habitat. The painting proposed here is a splendid and intense portrait of a young woman, related to fishermen because of the fishing nets she is carrying on her shoulder, going towards the beach that looms at her right; the artisthighlights her beauty, simple but proud, the stands out even during her effort and the harshness of daily life. The details of the house and the landscape in the background are well defined. There is an autograph writing and a signature by the artist on the back, that warn potential "pirates" from reproducing and trying to sell imitations of his work, threatening them with a criminal prosecution. The beautiful painting is presented in a coeval gilded frame.
