Oil on canvas. Signed bottom left. Born in Milan and trained at the Accademia di Brera as a student of Hayez and Bertini, Carcano initially had more success in the private market abroad, mainly in England and the United States, and in the Italian market, where his pieces displayed in Milan caused many lively controversies, both for the realistic approach characterized by a derivative repetition of the real facts and for the unusual use of colour. His production was initially characterized by historical subjects and genre scenes; his interests and researches focused on landscape painting with bigger success only around 1880, when the artist reached a full and mature composition skill which made him successfull. The landscape view belongs to this production of the artistic maturity of Carcano. It has some light spots in the sky paint. Frame in style.
