Oil on canvas. After the medieval and Renaissance portrayals that proposed the story of the life of the Saint as scenes of many different episodes, or inserted in group settings, individual representations of Francis appeared in painting, focused on his tormented spirituality: in ecstatic contemplation in front of the Cross, in a deserted place and with a skull in his hands, the memento mori, to highlight his spirituality but also his humanity destined to corruption. The piece is in its original canvas, mounted on a new frame and presents many paint losses. It is proposed in a frame in style.
