Description : Madonna del Divino Amore
Oil painting on canvas. It is a reduced-scale copy of the famous painting by Raffaello Sanzio. datable around 1516 and kept in the National Museum of Capodimonte in Naples. Although the iconographic model of the painting is undoubtedly that of the group "Holy Family with St. Elizabeth and St. John", the name by which the panel is known today dates back only to 1824 and derives from the title of the lithograph by Friedrich Rehberg, published in his "Rafael Sanzio aus Urbino ". The denomination of Madonna del Divino Amore in iconography is normally attributed to the representation of the Madonna enthroned with the Child on the right arm, two angels on the sides, above the dove of the Holy Spirit from which the seven rays of the gifts of the spirit emanate. Although a copy, the good quality painting reproduces the extraordinary and innovative diagonal arrangement of the composition, with which Raphael had upset the traditional pyramidal presentation of this sacred group. Restored and relined, the work is presented in a late 19th century frame.
