Description : Natura morta con pesci
Oil painting on canvas. The composition proposes a bunch of fish and sea creatures of various species and colors, placed in a wild landscape, near the stormy sea, whose waves are the only vital element together with the turtle in the background. This type of painting is fully part of the production of Elena Recco, the Neapolitan painter daughter of art, active between the end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth century, who stayed and often worked also for the Spanish court. Although he ventured into different types of subjects, his favorite and most successful were still lifes with a marine subject. The painter was capable of a highly realistic rendering, reinforced by a skilful use of light and colors. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a period frame.
