Description : Scena di corteo
Ink drawing on paper. In beautiful hand, it bears the inscription at the bottom: "Polidoro Caldara da Caravaggio. From the collection of Sir Tom Lawrence, 119". It is a drawing copied from the frescoes on the facade of Palazzo Milesi in Rome, made by the artist of Caravaggio, which propose cycles of mythological stories. Many of the original drawings of these frescoes are kept in the Uffizi and in the National Prints and Drawings Department, but in the following centuries they were taken up and copied by many artists. Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) was the first English court painter, but he was also a great connoisseur of art who created one of the most important collections of drawings by previous artists; many of these drawings are currently in the British Museum. In frame.
