Description : La belle chocolatière
Pastels on paper. Signed Gustav Fährig and dated 1860 lower right. It is an excellent copy of the work created by the Swiss artist Jean-Étienne Liotard (1702-1789), created between 1743-1744 and currently preserved in the Dresden Gallery; it represents a young waitress carrying a tray with a porcelain cup of chocolate and a glass of water. Little is known about the painter Gustav Fährig, of whom there are however several pastel copies of works by great masters, in which he demonstrated a remarkable pictorial ability, detailed and precise down to the smallest details. The painting is presented in a styled frame.
