Tempera on cardboard. Signed lower left. On the reverse, further signature and date. It is an unusual abstract work by the well-known Milanese artist Aldo Carpi, who was a painter, sculptor and teacher at the Brera Academy. He lived as a spectator the experience of the riots of 1898, as a soldier in World War I; in 1944 he was deported to Mauthausen and then to Gusen I for his Jewish origins: his participation in the historical events of the century was always documented by him with sketches and drawings (even the Diary of Gusen) and pervaded all his pictorial production, always filtered by his gaze as a man of faith. Predominantly linked to more traditional subjects, landscapes, portraits, he was also close to futurism, but always maintaining a personal and autonomous style. The picture is presented in a frame.
