Description : Gesù Bambino addormentato con Angeli

Oil painting on canvas. Italian school. The tender scene shows the Child Jesus, on the right, peacefully asleep, while a group of little angels surrounds him, taking care of him, one playing him a lullaby, another shading him with a cloth, and two others assisting the holy sleep. The whole scene is pervaded by childhood sweetness and tenderness: the serenity that emanates from the smiles of children is far from the gravity of the spiritual mission of Christ, the lively and brightly colored composition emphasizes the lightness of this moment, even if the red cloth spread above the scene is probably meant to be a memento of the Passion, which hangs over the life of Jesus. The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a frame.
