Description

Gilded brass proportional compass with hinge decorated with an engraved rosette. Signed "Le Maire à la Pierre d'Aiman a Paris", it also bears the inscription "demi Pied de Roy". Pierre Le Maire (1717-1785) took over his father Jacques' workshop in the late 1730s. He and his workers initially signed instruments with 'le Fils', so this example was probably made after 1750.

Product Condition:
The item shows signs of wear due to age. Any damage or loss is displayed as completely as possible in the pictures. It may require restoration and recovery of french polish. Product with a Certificate of Authenticity and Lawful Origin.
