Description : Cristo Pantocratore

Tempera on wood. Icon with silver riza. On the edge of the riza are the silversmith's symbol and the date 1884. The Christ Pantocrator is a representation of Jesus in glory dating back to Byzantine art (Pantocrator means he who dominates all things): with his right hand he is in the act of blessing with the three fingers raised, according to the custom then remained in the Orthodox church, in the other hand he holds a book, the Gospel. The icon is presented in a late 19th century frame, adapted to display case.
