Oil on cardboard. Signed at the bottom right. Daniele Fontana was born in Milan but often worked in Rome dividing his time between his work as a satirical cartoonist and illustrator and his work as figurative and genre painter. Famous caricaturis who made the representation of "turreted woman" of Italy that had been the symbol of Italian State and Govenment for several years. During the last years of his life he worked in Lenno alonge the Como Lake of which landscape he painted a glimpse. The paintig comes in a 1930s frame that shows some gilding drops.
