Description : Scena Drammatica

Oil painting on canvas. The work represents a scene taken from an unidentified historical or mythological tale: a young man - of royal lineage for the crown resting at the foot of the bed - lies on a bed of agony, and is watched on the right by an elderly sovereign, at the left by a young princess, with whom an intense gaze passes; in the middle, in the background, two other figures assist, underlining with the gesture the understanding between the two young characters. While the figures are dressed in an ancient fashion, the architectural background setting and the furnishings are of Renaissance taste: the rich damask fabric of the blanket, carpet and curtain stands out in particular, as well as the studded armchair with a velvet cushion Red; particular the little dog crouched at the foot of the bed; outside the window, you can see the facades of buildings rich in decorations with friezes and statues, with domes and pinnacles. The richness and beauty of these decorative details stand out in the work, which surround but also give prominence to the figures and soften the drama of the event represented, which seems almost a pretext for a rich description of interiors. The work, restored and relined, is presented framed in strip.
