Oil on canvas. Signed at the bottom right. The son of Domenico Piatti (1848 - 1915), an appreciated sculptor and marble worker for generations, Antonio Piatti first trained as a sculptor in his father's workshop, then studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he finally switched to painting at Cesare Tallone's school. He later lived in Paris and Rome, but also in Chioggia, where he painted several lagoon landscapes. He took part in numerous exhibitions and shows in Italy and abroad, bringing with him works that, from the pictorial vaporousness of Scapigliatura, were then contaminated by the new instances of Art Nouveau and the elegance of fashionable painting. The work presented here belongs to the group of landscapes inspired by the lagoons of Chioggia. It comes in a coeval gilded frame.
