Description : Verso le dune, ricordi libici
Oil on plywood. Signed lower left. The title is in pencil on the back. Work of the painter Giovanni Cavalleri who established himself mainly as a fresco painter, creating frescoes for numerous churches in the Bergamo valleys. Moreover, he did not disdain portraiture and landscaping, aimed at representing glimpses of his mountains but also seascapes and glimpses of the places he visited. In this canvas he proposes an unusual subject but in vogue for the orientalist tendencies of the second half of the 19th century: as specified by the title on the back, it shows a memory of his trip to Libya depicting a glimpse of the desert with two figures of running camels . The work is presented in a contemporary relacquered frame.
