Description

Female bust in terracotta, probable manufacture of Signa, Italy, late 19th - early 20th century. Copy of the famous portrait of a matron of the Hadrianic age, dated ca. 128-130 d.c. and kept in the Uffizi Galleries in Florence. The female figure portrayed embodies the main portrait type of Hadrian's bride, and therefore the example of the rich and refined patrons and evergeti of the imperial age.
