Description : Compianto su Cristo morto

Oil on canvas. Shaped for the original function of overdoor. The dramatic image presents with great pathos the solitude of Mary who, opening her arms and raising her eyes to invoke divine mercy, mourns her dead Son, placed on the ground outside the tomb; the only contour figures, the little angels who participate in the Mother's pain. The white figure of Christ's body contrasts with the colors of the Madonna's clothes, while all around, the background and the other figures fade into more opaque and dull hues. Restored but still on the first canvas, the painting is presented in a 19th century gilt frame.
