Description : Ritratto dell'Imperatore Giuseppe II d'Asburgo Lorena
Oil painting on canvas. Italian school of the eighteenth century. It is the portrait of the Emperor Joseph II of Habsburg Lorraine (1741 -1790), depicted half-length and turned in three quarters. Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1765, together with his mother Maria Theresa of Austria, and from 1780 as sole ruler, he is considered one of the representatives of "enlightened despotism", for the program of domestic and foreign reforms aimed at the development and strengthening of his kingdom. There are numerous portraits of him, such as this one, which dates from his youth, in a conventional pose with the cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresa of Austria and the red and white bandoleer, the colors of Austria. Relined, the painting is presented in a late 19th-early 20th century frame.
