Oil painting on canvas. Italian school of the XVII-XVIII century. In the scene taken from an evangelical episode of the Passion of Christ, Jesus is kneeling in heartbreak, with his hands joined in a supplicant prayer to the Father to take away from him the chalice that the Angel is offering him from the clouds, a chalice symbol of imminent death on the Cross ; in front of Christ on the ground the Cross is already present, which He will accept to undergo. To the left, in a dark corner, sleep the two disciples who accompanied Jesus in his prayer vigil. The scene is dark, the clothes of Jesus stand out and the white clothes of the Angel, who emerges from a bright gash from the dark background. Restored and relined in the mid-1900s. the painting is presented in a frame from the same period.
