Description : Venere e Amore
Oil painting on canvas. In the small scene, set in a barely hinted interior, the goddess Venus, dressed up, is jokingly blindfolding the eyes of the small winged putto resting on her knees with one of her veils, who is trying to free his face: according to traditional iconography, this gesture performed by the goddess wants to associate carnal love with sin and therefore with darkness; or more simply wants to remember that according to popular tradition, love is blind! The work is presented in a gilded frame from the late 1800s.
