Stone sculpture. Signed on the plinth. Painter and sculptor, a child of art in a family of ceramic painters, Pietro Cascella, before arriving at what he himself called 'true sculpture', that in stone, which made him recognisable in the eyes of the world, travelled the road from drawing to painting, with immediate public recognition. Cascella's work seems to be inspired by the conception of stone as the 'bones of Mother Earth', drawing on the myth of Deucalion and Pyrrha, which conceived of stone precisely as the bones, the skeleton of Mother Earth. Here the figure of a bird about to soar is proposed: in the hardness of the stone, left rough, marked by time, one can read the animal's movement of momentum and upward tension. He realises here a figure of a bird carved in stone.
