Bronze plaque. Signature inscribed lower right. A dancer, naked, is sitting on the ground intent on tying her shoes. The theme of dancers, whether sculpted, painted or lithographed, characterized, together with the theme of horses, much of the production of the well-known Sicilian artist in the Seventies and Eighties. Francesco Messina's sculpture, so full of echoes of the classical Greco-Roman and Hellenistic heritage, "is characterized", wrote Carlo Carrà, by "a simple and grandiose style" and by an "idealistic and classical procedure" capable of give life to forms that remain as "ideal images". The relief is mounted on a panel and framed.
