Description : Abele offe i sacrifici
Oil painting on canvas. The painting was previously attributed to Felice Schiavoni, due to the presence of a signature which was later found to be affixed. The scene refers to a biblical episode taken from the book of Genesis, which features the two first children of Adam and Eve. Cain practices agriculture and Abel shepherds: both offer the products of their work to God as a sacrifice, but only Abel's offerings are accepted. The preference given by God to Abel will arouse the jealousy and anger of Cain, who will take revenge on Abel by killing him. The painting depicts Abel raising his prayer to God while sacrificing some sheep from his flock to Him on the altar. The painting shows signs of previous restoration (patch on the back), with some stains still present. It is presented in a gilded frame from the late 19th century.
