Antique Flemish Painting The Young Violinist. Oil painting on canvas. Flemish school of the 18th century. The scene, set in a working-class village, sees a boy playing the violin in the centre, surrounded by other figures: to his left, in an attitude of protection of the boy, a man, perhaps the father; all around several kids listening. The pictorial style which offers somewhat awkward figures, with fixed and lifeless gazes, created in rather dark and gloomy color ranges, as is also the stormy background, refers to the genre painting of Northern Europe, in particular the Flemish area. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a period frame.
