Description : La liberazione di San Pietro

Oil painting on canvas. The painting copies, in a smaller size, the central part of Raphael's large fresco of the same name, dating back to 1513-1514, located in the Stanza di Eliodoro, one of the Vatican Rooms. This part evokes the moment in which the angel appears to Saint Peter who lies in chains, inside the prison: the great light emanating from the angel stands out in the centre, while the figure of the saint and, on the right, that of the sleeping guard, are blurry in the darkness of the cell. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a 19th century frame.
