Description : Salomé riceve la testa del Battista
Oil on copper. The episode narrated in the Gospel of Matthew is represented, according to which Salome, daughter of Herodias, illegitimate companion of King Herod, after having seduced the king with her dance, asked the king for the head of John the Baptist in exchange. The painting presents the moment in which, still in the prison where the beheading took place, the guard who carried it out offers the head to the girl, who receives it on a tray. The figure of the guard stands out in the foreground also due to its brighter colours, while the figure of Salome blends in with the dark colors of the prison. Traces of abrasions and repainting are visible on the painting. It is presented in a stylish frame.
