Description : Parte alpestre dello Stato di Milano, con il Lago Maggiore , di Lugano e di Como"
Copper engraving. The print presents a map of the alpine part of the State of Milan in the 17th century. In the top centre is the title, set in a frame flanked by two popular figures, a fisherman and a hunter; on the right is the 'scale of seven Italic miles'. The map is part of the Atlas major by Willem Blaeu (1571 -1638), but cartographically it derives from the map by Giovanni Antonio Magini, with some variants in the scale in miles and in the figures flanking the coat of arms with the title, produced between 1595 and 1620. The work is presented in a styled frame.
