Description : Scorcio di paese con figure

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. Additional signature on the back. Cavaleri was exclusively a landscape and particularly a marine painter, considered an exponent of the last Lombard naturalism. His painting, linked to the reproduction from life, is characterised by bright, vivid colours, with nuances spread in broad patches, with a technique that brings him close to the Lombard Impressionists of the late 19th century. In the more mature phase of his activity, the artist approached Art Nouveau (his posters are well known) and Symbolism, influenced by his friend, the poet Gian Pietro Lucini. Cavaleri's bright and lively colour palette stands out in this work, presenting in an Impressionist style the view of a small village square, in front of the church, with women and children intent on various activities, and chickens scratching around outside the courtyard. The work is presented in a mid-20th-century gilded frame.
