Description : Pastori con pecore
Oil painting on canvas. Bassanesca school of the 16th-17th century. The pastoral scene sees two farmers intent on shearing sheep, while in the background on the right, the horse-drawn cart is being loaded. The subject refers to the pictorial current developed in the 16th century by the Bassano painter Jacopo Dal Ponte known as Bassano, whose success derived from the fortune of pastoral themes, a production at the limits of genre and domestic painting, in which his workshop, then continued by his sons , specialized. The biblical-pastoral theme translated into the creation of genre scenes featuring farmers, shepherds and farmyard animals, inspired by the peasant life in which the Dal Ponte family lived. The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a period frame.
