Description : Ritratto di donna orientale

Oil painting on canvas. Northern European school of the 19th century. The portrait presents a beautiful young woman leaning languidly on the cushions of a sofa; she wears a widely low-cut tunic, over which is softly placed a rich red cloak edged with golden embroidery, of the same shape as the cap on her head, embellished with a little rose. The woman is placed in an interior, near a window from which a pink sunset can be glimpsed. The pictorial methods are close to those of Northern European artists of the mid-19th century, such as Augustus Leopold Egg or other painters of intimate genre scenes, which here are also affected by the contamination of the disruptive Orientalism in Europe. The work is presented in an early 20th century setting.
